My fingers are crossed it's the broken clamp. The clamp is only $7.00 but I won't know for a week as they're shipping me one. I thought about just switching the wires from the right to the left thinking if it gos forward and not backwards instead of the no forward I'd know the problem was in the reverse contact? But I'm afraid that could cause additional problems? I can see the clamp is broken off on one side and not making contact with the amature. I really appreciate everyone's help though. A big thanks to all and keep the suggestions coming.
Hi , you maybe going in the right direction but. you need to know this fact. you are working with a directional contact. This means power flow via normally open and the normally close other side. This unit may also have a by direction Pot. and you could have a bad side to it. As for $800.00 for the contactor, you may want to look at going elseware for parts. that more then twice what you can get that for.
Well Edward gave me the right clues and I have some parts on the way out from Kansas City. The whole assembly was $800 which is way out of my budget but I found some parts for $50 since the contacts were engaging just not working. The reverse being at rest and making contact, although confusing, Led me to A, figure out which was reverse, and B, finding a broken part "clamp" which is a brass part that wraps around the bottom middle but also has a right and left flange which contact the armature. This I believe to be the "at rest, contact" part. On the reverse contactor the left flange of the clamp is broken off. I'm hoping this may be the problem. For $7.00 it's worth a shot.
I have several old 1994 Hyster forklifts same vintage you are right in assuming contacts have someone come out and install a new contact set and you should be off and running
New, to this thing? Anyhow the serial number of this Yale lift is N452656. My email is in the profile but hps2322@yahoo is it. I think I've traced it to the contactors or at least I think that's what these are? Strange sequence of events led me there. First play appeared in the Joy stick. Then sporatic going forward accompanied with sticking going forward. Followed by no forward. Then the strange occurance. If I layed on the horn with the joystick pressed foward it went. This only lasted a day or two. My belief is the vibration from the horn was assisting a conductivity? Just a guess. Then no forward at all. Reverse ok but no forward. I did find the cause of the play which was a broken pin which pinned one of the plastic gears. But still no forward which led me in the side panel which led me to the contactors (what I believe are them) 4 placed 2 on top of 2. The bottom right one seems to have worn out springs? I think you're right in your diagnosis but I'm not sure which one is the reverse contact. Both the bottoms one's seem to engage/dis-engage whether you try forward or reverse. The top left seems to operate the lift and top right I'm not sure what it does? What I do know though is, I appreciate your help.
this is not going to be a trivial thing to troubleshoot, and if you are not familiar with how electric forklifts work an their components work together, then this may be the repair that would be less expensive and quicker to call in a qualified service tech to deal with.
Also, having a correct serial number and an e-mail address in your profile will make things easier to get you the -correct- information
That said, have you checked the at rest connections inside the traction (directional) contactors? the "at rest" connection for the reverse contact must make good connection for the unit to travel forward.
