Discussion:
ecm swap

I swapped an ecm between a P5000 and a C5000 and now the P5000 won't start!! Did I do something to the ecm or does it just need reprogrammed?

I swapped them and neither would start but yes they are back in the original machines. The C5000 runs but the P5000 wont start and I found out the ECM is not fried because a scanner shows most everything is activating but the injector will not operate. I'll check all the relays. THANKS for your input.

anything is possible, but I would not -expect- it to be "fried".
Have you swapped them back?
When you say "identical" how far apart are the serial numbers? are the sensors on the injector housing (carburetor) in the same place?
have you tried moving or replacing the relays in the relay box that is next to the fuse box?

"it's not rocket surgery"
yes I asked myself the same question why did I swap in the first place. But I had identical C5000 i was trying to verify if I had an intermitent ECM problem. Do you think I fryed it?

they are not compatible, even if you get it to start, the engine will surge due to differences in transmission ratios.
why did you change it in the first place?
there are even differences between the 2004 and 2005+6 ecms on the same truck size and model.
