Discussion:
Battery displacement indicator

I have two 25 plus year old trucks and after full charge and the charger automatically turns off. The BDI read 2 to 3 bars on the display. If I unplug it for a minute and plug it back in. The charger starts up for a couple of minutes I turn the charger off manually the BDI will read full charge on the display and the truck will run all day. If I don't do this the truck will run about an hour and the red dead battery light flashes and no lift.
They are both GE sx controllers.

Is this a programming issue or a part issue? I think I can get access to a laptop and software but what do I do with it, if it is a programming issue.

Thanks for any help.

Hello nitetime, I tried to write you a PM but it seems that it doesn't work in this forum. Maybe it's only a German thing.
Can you contact me at: schreibadresse ät gmx dot de?
Thank you from Germany

It's not the yellow from the egg
I also have window 2000 PC. With hyster tech., ge sentry, and just found hyster dash display on it. Never really used it. The old guy that did, retired years ago, and I then all he would do and teach me was to upload the factory defaults for a new controler.

Ok 1st. Battery Is 6 years old. I checked all the cells after over night charge they are all 2.1 -2.2. 2nd battery cells are 2.2 -2.3 the second battery and both b.d.i. where at 5/8s charge. The 2nd battery is 15 months old and it bleeds 24 volts to the case. Unrelated to these trucks. We had a battery tech. In here for another battery that need to be re manufactured and I showed him my problem he said that 24volt to the case was not a big deal. And said it was a truck problem. I know that 24 volts bleed through to an old Raymond ez-b truck screws them up big time because we have 30 of them. Never had problems with the hyster though.

yep, those cells are getting weak, is probably an older battery?
you can use a handset and turn the 'reset' back on the BDI a few digits but only a few, that way it will reset at a lower voltage to compensate for the aged battery cells.

I believe that there is probably nothing wrong with the controller what is happing is after charge the battery sits and the cells drop past the set voltage of the controller so when you plug back into the truck the controller does not see full battery voltage and will not set the bdi to full
what you are doing by putting the battery back on charge is juicing the cell quickly and faking out the controller for a new battery the cells in a good battery is2.1volyd per cell if your battery can't get to that after charge the gauge will not reset.what to do to check is charge the battery over night and on the morning check each cell and see if the cells are at a good battery l would bet that they are only getting to about 2..05 to 2.08 per cell. If you find out that this is the case and can get a GELX hand set you could change the setting in the controller to help with the gauge but you will still have a weak battery get back toe and l will help you.hope this helps.
