yessir,
i understand your frustration
there are electric truck mechanics and then there are electric truck mechanics
the fact that he doesnt know what happened and it is worse off now than before he started is unsettling for sure. That does not say much for his ability to work on electric trucks much less his 'certification' now does it.

I think at this point it would be in your best interest to call in to the dealership service dept, get the manager and do some serious complaining and demand a better qualified tech to come out... one that knows what hes doing hopefully. I wouldnt pull any punches either, make sure you let them know you mean business. ;o)

hehe i just caught kevin's post,
he is right, as far as toyota says "all" thier techs are certified, as for what thier certification is? well that is a grey area i suppose.

ok so i have some more info and some news. had a toyota certified tech come take a look at it to diagnose and he is certain that its the steering card/computer thats faulty and says everything else tests out ok. he finishes putting everything back together and now it doesnt want to to move or hydraulics work at all. all this worked fine before he worked on it. and he says he has no idea why it is doing this now. very frustrating on my part as im left with a even more broken fork lift than what i started with.

well generally most electric 4 wheel trucks have the control panel in the rear behind a cover plate but in toyotas case i'm pretty sure it will be behind an access panel on the lefthand side. The steering motor may be mounted under the floorplate area but in some cases i have seen it mounted underneath the battery area which in that case the battey would have to be removed.

But judging by the way you replied if you are not sure then i am going to assume you are either an operator or an owner and not a technician being that you had to ask. If i am correct in my assumption then i would call a qualified electric tech and have them check this. Safety is your foremost concern and i would hate to see someone get shocked or hurt in any way or even cause more damage to the truck because of their uncertainty while working on one of these trucks.

Thanks for the advice Jplayer, greatly appreciated. i have checked all the fuses and can only find 3 fuses on the right side panel, all seem ok and not blown. battery is fully charged. where would the control panel be on this truck?

and how can i access the steering motor to check contacts and brushes?

thanks in advance

- first check battery and make sure it is charged
- secondly, check the control fuses usually located on the control panel
- thirdly, check the power fuse located on the control panel (usually a larger fuse in the 60 amp range (this could vary a few amps)
- fourthly, the power steering contactor (and tips)
- and lastly the power steering motor brushes

now if all the electrical side of the power steering circuit is working as it should and the motor runs? then you will have to look for things like a broken pump and/or pump coupler

in most cases when its coding out its just an electrical failure such as a blown fuse
good luck
