I know but the tucks were not overloaded or abused and I know plenty of other sites using Titans that suffered cross beam failures in the UK we never had a failure on the Hysters and they were rated at 2 tonnes less than the Titan As I said the FKE we found to be on the whole a good product but the Titan was a disaster!! yes your correct I used to be at Barlows and yes the used to be a great company many years ago but that's another story lol.
Have a great weekend your self
We know the drive axle was a problem, its why it was changed to Axle Tech. That resolved items 1 & 2. the transmissions are still made by Dana and do very well. the GM LP gas engines are still used today and do very well. We have customers that run them for 30,000 hours. Cracking tilt cylinders and chassis are normally things we see when the trucks are overloaded, or abused. they're not issues we normally see. I'm happy your company found a solution, its worth pointing out a H7.00XL is a yard truck designed to work outdoors and designed for rough floor conditions. We also make a machine that competes with that model, in-fact we have supplied a variant of that truck to your marina industry.
I'm sure we can find fault in any product, fortunately we have customers that support our company and product.
Have a good weekend,
Marty my Titan experience, we supplied 10 to the same customer bad points,
1 Hub reductions destroying them selves on a nearly weekly basis
2 Axles failing yes they were ZF
3 Transmission failures on 7 out of 10 machines
4 Masts failing on the bottom brace on ever machine (the uprated masts cracked too)
5 Chronic overheating and radiator failures 0n all machines
6 Tilt cylinders failing on all machines ( either splitting or welds failing)
We had 3 chassis crack too these machines we lifting a maximum of 4 tonnes but at an extended load centre but were run well under capacity we swapped them for Hyster H7.00XL machines till the contract end they didn't suffer a fraction of the problems the Titans did.
And there were more
We lost the customer to competitor who supplied another fleet of Titans having told the customer it was us that were not supporting them properly they faired even worse than we did all of the same defects we had they pulled the Titans out and put Doosans in
So now you know why i dont like Titans (I don't know an engineer who does)
Its not my intention to insult you, it sound like you worked for Barlow and now I assume your with Briggs both great companies. My point is, several of the dealers in the UK and elsewhere have figured it out. We take pride in our work and product design, were sorry to hear about the bad experience. Have a great weekend,
Your right Marty you wont change my mind we had far too many disasters with the titan and lost far too many customers because of them. I do find your comment about understanding how to service them quite insulting are you insinuating that i dont know how too??? ive been in this industry for nearly 40 years working on most machines from hand pallets trucks to vna and reach stacker and received Hoist training. The dealer i worked for bought a large fleet of hoists mainly Titan and FKE I did find the FKE to be a fairly good machine but the titan was a disaster. I know Hoist is a small manufacturer compared to most but I stand by what I said about parts supply its a disaster and most on here seem to agree with me. If you supply a truck into the UK you need to be able to support it 3 months forwhat should be a service part is unaceptable , and the parts prices wow!!, By the way yes i know you supply Linde with trucks and know quite a few linde engineers who hate the things
You are correct, I am the Owner of Hoist. Fortunately we have many good customers in the UK that continue to order our trucks, they have a good understand how to service them. We have several 24-7 customers in the UK one being Beverage "Can Manufactures" Many of our UK can customers own trucks that date back to the 1960's and continue to order brand new trucks. Lifter you mentioned Linde, are you aware they're our largest customer in the UK. Every large electric they supply to Jaguar is a Hoist. They do a great job servicing our trucks and have ordered new trucks this year. Its our fourth order over the last 15 years. Parts and service support is always a challenge when they're half a world away. Linde figured out how to do it with local parts inventory and trained service professionals. Large compact cushion tire trucks require specialized service and support. It not my goal to change your mind just want to let you know we have satisfied customers in your country that have had our products for a very long time, Enjoy your weekend.
I am with you there Lifter, I would never supply or support one again, it's far to much hassle and the very slow expensive parts back up makes us look bad to our customers.
When you have a machine of this size often it's the only truck the customer has so no down time is critical which is something that you know you are going to have with a Hoist.
By the way I think you will find Marty F is the CEO of Hoist.
Lifter01 I'm not sure what happen with your Titan experience, are you aware Hyster Linde Kalmar and Doosan don't make cushion tire truck in this size range.
Marty i take it you work for Hoist?? the Fke wasn't that bed (for a Hoist). the titan we supplied a fleet to a customer in 2004 and all we supplied with ZF axles and yes they all failed within 12 months, Your right about the engine Hyster, Doosan and quiet a few other companies fit it and its probably the best part of the truck. What about the cracking Masts and yes every one failed, Tilt cylinders breaking etc every customer we supplied Titans too we lost because of these poorly designed poorly built trucks. the parts supply problems in the UK is a joke and ive talked to engineers who still work on newer machines and they tell me its just as bad as it always was. If you want a big truck buy an Hyster, Linde, Kalmar or even a Doosan but never ever buy a Hoist if you ever want to actualy lift something, its not a matter of if it will break but when
Sorry to rain on your parade Kathleen but we lost customers because of your inability to supply parts to the UK in a timely fashion, 3 months for a set of brake shoes for a titan is very very poor, parts prices are astronomical, service parts for the Vortec V6 were 4 times more expensive than getting the same parts from Hyster (and they aren't that cheap lol) maybe i the US you can supply parts but in the UK i never want to see another Hoist product let alone try to support one
I am the parts manager for Hoist Liftruck and we take pride in making sure our customers are happy. If you ever need parts support, please contact me direct at 708-552-2736 or kathleen at hoistlift dot com. If you ever have any issues with our parts or deliveries, I am always here and can discuss any issues you might have. We have built up our inventory since 2001 and are continuing to try to adjust to the needs of our customers. Currently our same day order fulfilment rate is at 95% or better.
The FKS and FKE models have been around since the 1960 and are in every industry in the UK. Companies like Jaguar have used them since the mid 90's successfully. The early Titan trucks had issues, the German made ZF drive axle had many issues, for that reason the axle was replaced with a Axle-Tech drive axle in 2001, so the parts problem and poor durablity must be related to a pre 2001 model. The General Motors engine might not be perfect its still the best choice for that size truck, Many manufactures are using that engine.
Grayson, as a senior engineer with Hoist I can assure you that Hoist has made significant improvements in their manufacturing process and overall quality of our wiring harnesses. Recently all wiring processes (cutting, stripping, crimping...etc) are now fully automated and every harness assembly is fully bench tested before installation onto all model vehicles. If you have any questions please contact me directly at (708) 552-2787.
Wanderer, as Engineering Director for Hoist, I can assure you all of our masts are constructed of high strength alloy steels and meet the requisite 3:1 safety factor required (at a minimum).
Additionally, as Hoist strives for continual improvement, we have been, and continue to, implement robotic weld cells to improve our welding consistency and quality. If you have any concerns about a specific unit I would be happy to address them with you.
Feel free to contact me at your convenience. 708.552.2788
Have only had experiecnce with two. Both 30k, not sure of models. One was almost brand new and already the wiring harness with a disaster. and the second cracked the block between 2 cylinders. everything else seemed to break during the process of replacing the motor. Would not recommend them except that it is hard to find a cushion truck that big
