best way to diagnose is to turn key on then run around to front and see if steer/drive wheel moves each direction at self test as a faulty feedback encoder can also cause f208. if steering moves each way most likely feedback encoder.

Excellent post by Bruce...I have also seen the armature shaft or key of the steer motor sheer. 208 In simple terms the truck thinks it sent a request for steer during self test and didnt see a response. Did the Drive Unit really turn during self test? If yes, its in the return signal from the DU encoder. If No, The mechanical/electrical signal is being delivered is being interuppted. Have a manual? Let me know..

Knowledge is power,Guess Im pretty Powerful!
A Crown Stock Picker (orderpicker) has SP in its model number, eg 15SP48TT or SP3220-35. Serial # of the machine built after 1990 starts with 1A, W or H before.
I am guessing that you have a SP3000 or SP3200 series. A stored code of 208 is steering self test on startup dected no movement. Posible cause is blown steering fuse, steer motor brushes or poor contacts in K5 relay (when facing the power unit end of the machine at bottom left is the steering module and above it under a plastic box is the large K5 relay). Take the cover off of the K5 relay and have somebody turn the key switch to start. as the machine goes throung self test you should see K5 relay close and the drive tire twitch left and right.

Note: having the drive tire off the floor during a startup can cause this fault.

Fact of the week
Brothers Adolf ("Adi") and Rudolf ("Rudi") Dassler split their shoe company after WWII due to a bitter feud, and established the rival companies of Adidas and Puma. Their personal animosity and business rivalry divided their German hometown Herzogenaurach. The town became known as "the town of bent necks" due to the intense loyalty to each brand.
