Cat Lift Trucks (& Caterpillar) TL 12-55:
Scan tool for engine codes- starting problems

Have a CAT TL 12-55 came from Texas to Canada and sat for a while in -25c temps- managed to get it going and in to the repair shop-changed fuel and filters and bled system but would not start with out a shot of starting fluid all glow plugs working and low press pump putting out 40-80 psi when running- then the engine would not start at all found injector high press pump not working replaced the pump an now back to needing starting fluid again to get running-has new diesel fuel old fuel removed- have no scan tool for this- has any one tried an OTC 3418 scan tool on Cat engines and if so does it give good sensor readings as I may purchase one if they work ok-one other problem when park brake switch is turned off and put in gear there is no throttle response-all fuel lines checked for air leaks-stating to pull out hair any help would be great.

you may also want to remove the banjo bolts securing the fuel lines at the injection pump and check inside them, cat is known to use filter screens in their fittings at this location. These screens are known to clog up restricting fuel flow. A good cleaning of these screens should clear up any fuel flow issues that can cause this type of symptom.
