A cylinder leakdown test is more accurate than the old compression test Also, are you using gauge reading for your determination of "running hot"? I have seen sending units get damaged from "overheats" and give "false" gauge readings after problem is fixed. If you don't have a hand held temp tester, try new or "known"good sending unit. Radiator in good shape? ---Take radiator cap off and idle truck and look for air bubbles--might have to fill rad up to top to see good.
