Discussion:
Resale Values

Hello all,

I am new here as well as to my new position at work. For a few years now I have been tracking our companies forklift expenses, and I would like to calculate the break even point on all of our machines to see where we stand finacially. I have all the information I need except the resale or scrap value of our trucks. I have combed through many sites looking for this information. Is there a particular site that would help me with regards to calculating the resale vales of our current forklifts?

I had seen on called the E guru or something along those lines, yet this site requires you to sign up and pay a hefty fee for your troubles. We are running all Toyota forklifts, most from around 2002 - 2005 and in the 6000 - 10 000 lbs capacity range, and all with well below 1500 hours a year being logged. They are also in good condition and have been maintained regularly.

Anyone have any advice aside from combing through all the classifieds? I am having trouble finding a logical starting point, although this site is looking promising. Again I am new to all of this and I would appreciate any and all advice with regards to fleet management, any sites or books you can recommend would be of great help.

Thank you for your time.

You might want to send your equipment list with specs to a few wholesalers. That is about the only way to determine its current value. Keep in mind that you will do better if you are trading them in to a dealer as you will have some leverage then

At this time of global economic crises this is almost impossible to answer. Anything is only worth what somebody will pay and at present at auction some fleets are only making a small fraction of what they should be worth. However as a starting point, maybe if the trucks are well maintained, an optimistic value maybe made by devaluing as follows
20% year 1
20% year 2
15% every year after.

it is unlikely that in any market in the world that they will be worth more than that.

As said that I believe is optimistic and a s/hand dealer might offer a lot less.

hope this helps

Your best bet is to contact your local Toyota dealer, who might be Liftow, and have them look at each piece of equipment, specification of the unit (mast, attachments, forks etc, etc). They can give you a value of the equipment. I'm certain a Toyota dealer will give you a fair evaluation.
