If you do go the electric fuel pump route- make sure to T into the pressure line to the carb, install a variable restrictor in that line & run that line back to the tank.
I've found the either A)- the electric pump will over power the float in the carb over time (forklifts don't usually run high rpm's & the pressure backs up) or B)- the backed up pressure will destroy the pump over time.
Installing the by-pass back to the tank eliminates this issue
