A wider operator's paltform can help close the gap that your are concerned about. Most manufactured offer them as an option.

For your info. the oder picker was first developed by a company called Lewis Sheppard for textile handling in clothing manufacturing in the NE USA. The units were used to put away and retrieve bolts of fabric use to make suits, etc.
