The L51C model had a few options- usual dry clutch (manual trans), dry clutch coupled to a fluid coupling (a simple type of torque converter) w/ manual trans & an automatic.

Assuming you have a manual- if you send me a picture of your bellhousing I can tell you if you have a fluid coupling or not.

The L51 series was built in the late '60's & early '70's.
