yes #1 is on the fan end of the engine ;o)
note the rotation of the rotor when turning the engine over
then bring it up on #1 cylinder TDC to find the #1 wireslot in dist cap. Then using the rotation check the wiring order around the distributor in the direction of rotor rotation. As was said it should be 1342

if thats correct then i'd take some starting fluid or brake cleaner and mist the air filter and crank the engine , if it cranks up and runs then you most likly have a problem in the fuel system too. lockoff or lp filter, out of lp gas etc etc....
