If the steering sensor (2 in total) has failed the teach in will fail. If the steering motor or motor bushes has failed, the teachin will fail. If there's serious errors on the machine not related to steering (self test fail), the teach in will fail.
What you can additionally try, is cross reference part no of steering sensor and control block, and use another diagnostic project to run the steering teach in.
