if there are any errors/faults they should be showing up on the dash display by fault code and maybe accompanied with an associated icon.
when starting the lift make sure the park brake is set, you are on the seat and the seat belt fastened, maybe even depress the brake pedal while turning on.
By your description that there are no main functions, only accessory functions are working it should be showing a fault code when you try to operate it.
