sounds very odd, almost sounds like an ignition module problem.
something on the #1 plug firing is killing the signal?
Have you got another module you can stick in it? for testing?
One other sure fire way of seeing what is going on is to get the PSI or Spectrum Engine program and monitor it and see what's going on.
