i can tell you with fairly good confidence that you probably do have a break in a wire and the break generally is in the harness right at the sensor plug.
In mcfa's almighty wisdom they elected to change their wiring harness material to a more solid core (less strands) in their wires which in turn made them stiff and more brittle. They cannot stand much vibration. Over time the wires will break usually at where they bend. (in almost every case at the connector).

If you pull on the wires (one at a time) at the air flow sensor plug you will more than likely find one that is broken, it will stretch or pull out.
You can repair this (if there is enough wire) by soldering them back together.
I've done this many times. ;o)

This goes for any sensor that errors out, first rule of thumb is to check the harness for broken wires by pulling on the wires at the respective connector. If a wire is broken it will pull apart at the break.
