Discussion:
REMOTE STARTERS FOR FORKLIFTS SAFETY REGS

Interested in any forklift that has a remote starter -- similar to those available with newer model cars. Particularly want to know whether any safety regulations - any country - are in place to preclude starting a forklift while/when the operator is not aboard the truck sitting in its seat.

Also... Pre operation safety inspections. Normally the first few "check points" the operator does are done pre-start up. I'm just trying to wrap my head around why.

It's all just nuts n' bolts.
LoL. They have been since the 80's. What your describing here is much different than fitting an automotive remote starter to an ic forklift.

Good luck.

Adams, Stam: Remote controlled forklifts are already on the market and in use. I'm just trying to find any specific (operative word) existing safety standards, rules, and/or regulation that might apply to an RC forklift. Nevertheless, appreciate your responses.

I just read another post. Seat interlock sensor. this person is saying that the new generation fork truck. must have operator on seat. then fasten seat belt before the truck will crank.
so in todays world of sue happy folks. a remote start is not something any factory would approve. to many things can go wrong

I am with Stam on this one. What need is there for having a remote start on a fork truck. unless it has a cab and heater. installing a remote start is just more wiring future issues.
This is most likely a question best ask to the maker of the truck for legal issues

The term "attended" and/or "unattended" is specifically defined in the OSHA forklift operator rules. The application I'm referring to would not be considered "unattended." I agree with you, an unattended forklift would not be safe if left running. Would appreciate it if you would give me any specific example of the warning decals you mentioned.

what need is there for one?

truck should not be left running while unattended will be written in most owners manuals. I have even seen warning decals with this statement.
