Toyota 8FGCU32:
Regulator Icing as forklift warms up....

Good morning guys, I'm having some trouble with one of my lifts model: 8FGCU32 here at work that was having overheating issues. First it just showed the code 04-1 which is the temperature sensor abnormality which actually ended up being a broken wire to the sensor. So anyway I changed the thermostat and coolant temp sensor (before discovering broken wire) and the code went away. Now the lift shows that the temperature is overheating with no other indication but the regulator I noticed is actually icing up where the coolant liquid runs through the regulator (bottom of regulator) coming off behind the water pump on the engine.

well if you had fluid present in the regulator that is a good sign
usually you would have to pull the hoses where they connect at the water pump and intake bypass return and make sure they are not corroded closed and any other fittings in that part of the system.
If you know they are clear then most likely you do have circulation.

Thanks for the response. I will check the hoses but before I removed the old regulator in anticipation for the new one coming in I made sure water pump was building pressure. I did check all the hoses and fittings for wear and leaks. Question though. I would I check to see if the fluid is moving through the hoses when running. I know there was fluid moving as fluid was present in regulator after I had drained and refilled coolant.

i know you previously mentioned checking the coolant and w/pump etc, you might also want to double check the bypass hoses and the fittings and hoses going to and from the regulator and make sure coolant is flowing through them as well.
Low or no flow through that circuit will also cause the regulator to freeze up.

Found that when removing the big hose on the fuel regulator and cover outlet with finger that there was pressure coming out which is said to be a bad regulator. Waiting for part to come in and will update. Thanks for the responses!!! Actually do you guys know of any other tests for a fuel regulator. Have another lift with fuel issues?

Yes the coolant level was good as I had just drained and replaced all the fluids during 1000 hr PM. And I bled the water pump until coolant only came out of bleeder screw on top of the water pump
