Discussion:
Random start issue

Hello everyone, I have a Genie Z60/34 with the Deutz engine. The machine has a weird no start issue. At first thought it was the starter or battery. Replaced both and even sent back a second starter thinking i received a defect. Upon further digging i found my exciter wire to the starter was only getting 8 volts. Yesterday i ran through the wiring and found a questionable butt connector which after i replaced machine went back to starting fine. This morning machine started fine and now back to no start. Let the machine cool down completely and tried still no start so isn't heat soak. The ignition/start module is putting out close to 12 volts on start on the starter relay pin. The starter relay is working as it should. Does anyone have any advice on something else to check or how to check farther in detail on the ignition/start module? The machine starts on first lick using a remote starter button on the starter solenoid

Thank you for the response. The machine has an electronic start/ignition module in the patch panel that goes to a 5 post relay then to starter. One of the first things I tried was replacing the relay to see if i was getting a voltage drop through that. I'm leaning toward that module acting up but I don't know exactly how to test it without just ordering a new one and swapping it out which I'm trying to avoid unless I know its the problem. Today I'm planning on running a new wire from the relay to the starter to see if that fixes the issue but so far anything I do to this thing seems to fix it then day or two later goes back to not starting.
