Puma FG15:
Puma FG15 1991. Nissan Engine. Overheating

Newby here. Just purchased above truck. Operating on Gas but engine overheats after 1o mins use. Checked radiator level and seems ok. Expansion bottle empty. Fan seems to work. Oil level ok and clean. Machine had been stood for sometime - started first time when we viewed and still does on cold. Very nieve so please be gentle ;-)

If it is the transmission light that is on it could be something as simple as a wire off of the temp sending unit on the transmission,check it over and see if you see any wires not on where they should be,this could be the same for the temp sending unit for the coolant temperature. Some trucks ive seen have just a single wire trans temp sending unit and it gets knocked off. I would check the temperature of the coolant when the light is on and also the transmission to see where your problem is,a operators manual or service manual should tell you which light is which.

Kevin. Thanks again. Perhaps I need to determine if its the engine or transmission that is overheating then. I will try to decipher the gauges first.

not sure on the manual maybe someone here on the forum can help with that,as for the other temperature guage it is probably for the transmission temperature.

Kevin. Thanks ever so much. I am new on here and didn't know what to expect. I will be able to try / check some of the things you have suggested over the weekend and try to narrow it down.
Would you know where I could find a manual for this?
There seems to be two temperature gauges - would one be for the hydraulics?

Could be a number of things,plugged radiator inside or out could be plugged with dust and debris between the fins,can blow it out with compressed air and see if that helps. Could be the fan belt is loose not spinning the fan good enough at speed. Could be a stuck closed thermostat not letting coolant to the radiator,or it could be a bad water pump. Could be a bad radiator cap also,doubt it but is possible.
Can you open the radiator cap and start it and see if there is flow thru the cores while its running? Let it run for a bit and see if you can tell. Blow the Radiator out with compressed air from both the engine side of the radiator and thru the counterweight opening side. What is the concentration of water to antifreeze? is it 50/50?
Push on the fan belt at its longest free running lenght it shouldnt deflect more than a 1/4 inch at most. Does the truck have a fan clutch on it like a car does? Possible a bad fan clutch if it has one?
