Hyster S1.50XL:
Propane 1.5t Hyster Will not start under high gas pressure - please help?

Hyster S1.50XL (B010) We've had problems starting this thing and we figured out, if we took out the pressure of the gas in the inlet feed pipe it would start but then we had to be careful not to open the gas bottle valve too much otherwise it would cut out. Now when we finish using the FLT we close off the gas bottle and wait for the gas to run out before we turn off the truck so we can start it again. Its very hard to turn the gas bottle on enough to start it but not too much to choke it. Its driving us crazy having to mess around like this - please can someone help to identify what the issue is and what we need to check/replace/tweak etc..? be glad of some help.

Thanks guys! I stripped down the regulator, cleaned it all up. Replaced the gaskets, diaphrams and secondary lever. Leveled the Secondary lever, And put it back together and now its like new!! Cold engine fired up v quickly and idled perfectly. Turned gas on full and turned off the engine and it fired back up straight away no problem. Idles loads smoother too. Great advice, thank you!

is there any wiring harness to the mixer?( what you are calling a carb) or do you have vaccum lines going to it?

No your looking at the regulator and the filter lock off. The mixer is on the inlet manifold looks like a small card. Don't mess about change the regulator it will be knackered at least strip it and get a repair kit in it, after that look at the mixer

Jimbony there is a service jig available for the CA50 mixer which comes with a new piston, ring bottom plate and gaskets it's a **** of a lot cheaper than a new mixer but the mixer on these is absolutely crap anyway

The Pressure at the Mixer is controlled through the Regulator.
I really think you have a regulator problem.
On this "Low" pressure system, if you take your LPG feed hose off at the Mixer, Turn LPG Tank ON. Then turn Key on. Not Cranking, and Hear or see LPG come out, You have a Regulator Problem.
Thanks;
Tom

The ERP Mixer is what You would call the Carb on a Gasoline Engine.

Thanks. The ERP mixer is that the carb? or the unit that is next to the regulator? (this looks very similiar to the Regulator but not sure what it does - Its connected to the regulator with a steel pipe at the top). Excuse my ignorance - im thick when it comes to Gas engines!

if it has a ERP mixer, take it off and look down the throat, if you see daylight through it , replace it ,the valve is stuck and not serviceable

Order a repair kit for the gas regulator I'm guessing it will be an impco J type on this truck, they have a strip valve that is prone to failing due to pressure forming it onto the valve face and splitting the seal. The mixer/card will be an improvement ca50 these are also prone to failure with the bodies wearing out and not provide vacuume to allow the regulator to open

It sure sounds like you have a bad LPG Regulator.
You can try warming it up and then shut the LPG off. Open the drain on the bottom of LPG Regulator. See how much wax comes out.
If you get more than a few drops. Time to replace or rebuild.
