Discussion:
Possible Forklift Scam

Has any other forklift supplier been contacted by individuals in Ghana about sending a forklift over to them and spreading payments over a large number of credit cards?

I have seen plenty of scam emails...
Elements in such message that can help you identify a scam:
* the email address is 'generic' rather than linked to a specific company (yahoo, hotmail,...)
* you cannot find the company mentioned on the internet (even though not every company has a corporate webiste, every -decent- company is listed in some directory...)
* there is no explanation where you have been found as a contact
* the order is big and not very specific. the only specific element is the size of the order...
* I am sure there are more
If all the above elements are true with the request you receive, I would suggest to preceed VERY carefully!

I've had quite a few similar emails and I don't even sell equipment (I get them because forklifts are discussed on my site). You need to ask yourself if there is any legitimate reason why someone from a distant country would want to purchase equipment from you and also look at the content of the request to see if there is enough detail to make you believe the person actually knows something about the equipment he is trying to purchase (the scammers usually don't, they just request whatever they see on your website). The vast majority of these are scams, but it may be possible there are some legitimate requests in there. If you think the request is legit, you need to set the payment terms in such a way that you can't get ripped off. If you're not familiar with international transactions, you need to stay clear of these.

Yes, they want everything from pump jcks to lift trucks but ultimately they are trying to get your banking information so that they cam "wire transfer" the funds...don't fall for it!!!

No But don't entertain it.

It is amazing how many scams originate from Africa.
