Have a Clark CF40B With the Zenith Water jacket style Vaporizor and what I'm told is called the C Regulator right after it,it has the two diaphragms that you can unscrew from the unit.....Customer says it starts hard when cold.....it has a new ignition Sytem on it and I replaced the Vaporizor recently but not this C regulator as my shop can't find one for less than 5-600$$$$..... What is a good way to check this reg and what is the adjustment procedure for the screw that is in the end of it? What fuel PSI should I be getting out of it To the zenith air fuel mixer(is a street elbow style mixer,no Diaphrams in it)....

Pennsylvania, United States Do they make a conversion kit to convert this over to an impco model J or Cobra style regulator, one with a plug for where the Vaporizor is now? Where is it you tie in your coolant lines for the Impco Regulator....mounting it????
###My favorite is PNG technologies for kits. Matt Nolff and crew offer technical advice as well.
Yes sir Mr Fixit and if the cable is broken at the carb, it will let the choke close when starting. These were a pain in the *** systems as usually the regulator housing would rust and was a real fun fix to seal including the through bolt.
That should have a choke and cable on the carb. If that is working right it should help cold starting. It also has a idle mixture screw on the carb.
There is a conversion available- just know that the regulator as well as the mixer (carb) will have to be replaced. Those round diaphragms you're presently dealing with used to be called "elephant ears". I haven't been able to locate any for a while hence the need for a conversion.
If you Google Impco conversion kit you should find several companies that do them. I have used Alternative Fuel in the past.
Their website is www dot altfuel dot com. replace the dot with a period. All you need to do is give them the model, engine and what fuel system is on the truck and they will either have one on the shelf or can put one together.

There should be a screw in the front of the regulator. I use to take a cup of water and put the hose coming out of the regulator in it. You should see a bubble of fuel about a second or two apart. If it is coming out at a steadier pace than that try to adjust it by turning the screw. If that doesn't work you may need to replace system.
Coolant level is full......
Make sure you have good coolant levels. old style system. you might want to convert to a newer IMPCO Style
