Hi everybody I am stumped
I have a Yale that reportedly was parked up on a Friday and wouldn't start Monday, I have done the following
Checked power to lpg kickoffs, taken off lpg feed hose to check gas is flowing, checked spark (very weak), replaced ignition module, it fired up and ran for about a minute then just cranks
Sprayed ether in intake, still nothing, replaced plugs, leads, distributor and coil, still nothing, compression test, check cam timing, checked voltage to coil, all checked out ok but still no sign of firing just cranking over
Help please

Hi, I am wondering what the end trouble shooting result was on this fork truck ?
Currently, I am having very similar issues with my fork truck here at the shop. Same model as listed above. Followed all advised procedures and still no results.
It cranks but not start, pressure check came out normal, spark plugs are good, currently going to replace igniter.
good spark
you said fuel delivery was good
does the engine sound ok when starting? or does it sound unusually erratic while turning over?
i would check the timing and timing belt and gears
get #1 cyl up on TDC and check the timing marks on the crank and cam gear and make sure they line up. it could have jumped a tooth or two.
If this is an F2 or FE engine the top cover is easy to remove and check, the bottom part is not so easy to remove but you may have to just to check the lower half.
Yeah they re the same spark plugs that its been running on for the past 3 years, the engine is old but that woulnt cause a sudden no start fault
Hi Mate, I have excellent spark now, I only use a forklift parts supplier for all my parts
are you still getting good spark at plugs?
go back and recheck your ignition module
was it aftermarket?
when it comes to ignition parts like that you should be using oem parts, not aftermarket.
Mic,
Verify the correct spark plugs are installed. A lower heat range will affect starting, also, make sure the distributor is correct. If you installed an assembly, maybe a crack in the cap. Do you have what looks like a capacitor mounted around the distributor? Should this fail you will have no spark. Before you drive yourself crazy, start back at the basic. Have you changed the fuel tank, air cleaner condition. I have seen an LP tank seem full, crank the bleed screw and nothing but water comes out. Good luck.
Hi Mate,
I didn't take the cover off but wound it over until compression on number 1 then checked the crank position and distributor rotor position, all lined up. If it was 180 out then it wouldn't have started and run for a minute or 2 when I changed the ignition module initially
Being a mechanic by trade and a forklift mechanic for many years its making me question my sanity
MicD,
You said it had weak spark, replaced distributor , coil, plugs and wires, how is the spark? You said you verified cam timing, you removed top cover and checked timing belt? trying to get a feel for what you have done so I can help. What fuel system is on the lift, who makes it? Since you shot ether in it and it did not try to start, I suspect either serious spark issue, or timing out 180. Verify the timing of distributor install with engine on DTC. Remove the bolt holding the distributor and turn it as far one way as the other and try to start. This should tell you if it is a timing problem. I will check in this weekend.
Yes as mentioned in my post I have done a compression test and it passes with all cylinders at approximately 120 psi.
As far as a bad wire, there is only one 12 volt feed wire to the ignition coil and that is fine
Have you compression tested the engine ?
If it comes back as good then I'd recheck the ignition system as you may have a bad wire
