Discussion:
no 3rd speed

I have an older series M walkie lift. The 3rd gear isn't working. In the past it was usually just a switch or wiring problem in the handle. This time the connector switch B doesn't seem to activate, it just seems to rattle back and forth and doesn't make contact. Any help appreciated.

you can also check for debree in the contactor as the terminals on the contactor for the coil frequently drop out. I have even had occasion when a piece of plastic has logged between the tips. Third speed switch above the 3rd speed contactor also suffers from dry or broken solder on occasion. Rabbit switchs are also notorious for internal corrosion or failing contact.
But i think Tony may be right, low voltage is the most common cause.

If the batts are o.k., check harness that runs under/by the drive tire. I have seen alot of them chaffed. 3rd speed, meaning no contactor movement? (high speed contactor-the one with the switch mounted to it?) check negative voltage.

Sounds like the batteries need a charge or there is one or more bad batteries. I would check them with a volt meter while operating the lift to put them under a load.

At the opening ceremony of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932, marching bands were instructed to walk out of step as they crossed the bridge. This unusual directive was given as a precaution due to concerns about the bridge's structural integrity during its early use.
