Discussion:
Lift Motor Spins Backwards

The problem is on a TSP-6000, 2010 model, with around 400 hours on it. When lifting the aux mast then releasing the control, the lift motor will kick out as normal, but then spin backward for a couple of revolutions. It also seems to do it with the main lift, but it is not as loud and it may only go a partial turn in reverse then. I have calibrated the hydraulics and the controls, the fluid looks great, but this one has me puzzled. Suggestions?

i would look for a faulty check valve or flow control valve
being this truck splits it's lift functions between the main mast and the auxillary mast i would assume they share a common distribution manifold block?

just an educated guess ;o)

Something else you can try is remove the pressure hose end and put it in a bucket so that there is no resistance and then operate the function (only for a second) and see if it still does it with no hydraulic pressure. If it does then I would suspect the problem is electrical and if it doesn't spin backward then I would look into the hydraulics.
Food for thought and something to try

I would check the lift solendoid valve/spool. If you can get your hands on the service manual look in the hydraulic schematic. It could be a check valve is closing slower than usual or the lift solenoid valve.
If the valve is still open even a little bit when the motor stops it could be the back pressure closing the valve altogether if the valve is sticking.
It's a thought to consider.

Does the mast/forks go down when the motor spins backwards?
What does the noise sound like?
