Discussion:
intermittent spark from coil

i am having trouble with coil on fork lift
its an oldy 1966 towmotor with those 4 cylinder Chrysler motors.

we would have spark then not, have spark then not...
so i replaced the coil- at first no spark, then spark... so i suspect it is wiring or some other component failing and not sending signal to it like it is supposed to

i followed the ground wire from it to a small lil metal box that has hand-writing on it that reads TP 85 Control;
so i am guessing Terminal or Touch panel...so i looked inside it is alike a gel substance that 6 wires run into and go several different places - alt, starter, coil, and distributor -

i have never seen such a box, like that- with the gel and wires coming out of it... anyone know what that might be- anyone know if i can maybe run ground directly to it- i suspect not b/c if so it wouldn't be going through that gel box.

any one with ideas/suggestions?? so greatly appreciated

That has electronic ignition and the box is the control module. It also has a pick up coil in the distributor. Most likely the box is bad. It is a Caterpillar part # 369013. NAPA has them. They can probably look it up under Prestolite number IDJ3017AS or 65-66.

Fact of the week
Bluetooth is named after the 10th-century Viking king, Harald Bluetooth, who united warring tribes in Denmark and Norway. In 1997, Jim Kardach from Intel gave the name to the technology because of its ability to unite different communication protocols, just as Harald united various tribes.
