Hyundai Forklifts - what does everyone think?

Hi all,

I am considering a purchase of two Hyundai forklift Trucks. One is 7 ton machine, gas (model 70L-7A) and the other is a 3-5 ton electric (model I don't have currently).

These forklifts will get light use only, but we expect them to last nearly forever because of that and that is the idea. Previously we have had old forkllifts and you have to spend a bit on them and occasionally they break down causing distractions and downtime.

The main question I have is does anyone have a Hyundai forklift and what do they think of it?

The 7 ton machine looks to be great for the job in hand. It is relatively cheap (compared to a Hyster to get that lift its half the price) and gives 7 tons at 800mm centres.

The 3-5 ton electric looks to be quite cheap (again in comparison) and seems to offer all the features. Again because it is lightish use, so i don't need to worry about the battery capacity (there is a 5 year warranty on the battery anyway).

I would love to hear please what people think of their forklifts?

Like everything in this industry it goes back to the servicing / sales dealer, good dealer service, good results. if you can get parts in a reasonable time frame, good techs to repair them that is all you need

Opinion seems to be split and parts seems to be the major issue on them.

I know the company we are looking to buy them off say they have access to both genuine and non-genuine parts. They did also say if they had been contract hiring the electric they would use Nissan for heavy use. So i felt it was a balanced opinion but he seemed unconcerned about the spares.

I have a bit more looking an analysis to do before deciding. Delivery is only 4 weeks. I think I am probably going to go for it on the big gas, due to lack of alternatives that meet the requirements.

On the electric I am not sure yet.

Thanks for everyone's input, if we do go for it I will keep updated on the outcome and reliability.

I would still be hesitant to buy these- even with light use- you may need them only occasionally, but, when you need them you need them. The low price will be a distant memory when you're down waiting for parts.

Customers love technology- until they have to pay to fix it!
If you can get parts within 2 days, that`s as good as it gets!!!
I wait a week getting parts for our own trucks from the manufacturer. Funny how I can get auto parts online cheaper and quicker than our own parts dept!
Those hyundai`s should be fine. Light use makes all the difference.

Hi,
Hyundai are ok for low usage and as you say, lifting at 800mm is good.
But, as I said before, the only let down are the parts supply.
When we order our parts for Hyundai, so long as we get our order in before lunchtime, we can get our parts next day.
If the parts order is mid afternoon, the wait time is 2 days.
Before anyone jumps in, TVH are not good on Hyundai parts.

Hi,

The critical thing for me really is the lifting capacity. The Hyundai 7 tons Gas truck will lift 7 tons at 800mm centres, where as most trucks at this size will only lift it at 600 centres.

This makes the difference for us lifting certain pieces of equipment and not we think, as the Hyundai will still lift 6.5tons at 1m centres.

Its very difficult with forklifts to come up with the right answer due to the huge number of options available.

How about the Toyota approved used scheme?

There from BT / Toyota's rental fleet & refurbished in the UK.

There are 3 levels of warranty coverage offered, might be worth a look.

Hi Mick,

Would you consider these trucks to be good enough for light use? The gas truck maybe 5 hours a week, the electric probably 15 hours a week?

Hi,
We are a forklift company in central UK.
We used to be dealers for Hyundai but dropped the dealership due to parts supply, also we had some issues with build quality and reliability.
If you require any further information on other budget priced trucks you can contact me by Email.
My Email is in my profile.
