It is not illegal. You can purchase the software but you need at least one of your technicians to go through the training. Hyster/Yale will train customer personnel if you have enough units. Contact your local dealer and request training for your people. This needs to be approved by the manufacturer. The reason it is not illegal is the forklifts are a industrial piece of equipment. This means they are over seen by OSHA. OSHA states that only trained technicians may repair this equipment. If the manufacturer or the dealer gave you the software without training and one of your technicians did something to the truck that caused an accident, who ever gave you or allowed you access to the software would be liable and would be fined by OSHA.

I had heard it's illegal for them not to offer the software for purchase we have Allison and Cummins I don't understand why we can't purchase it and diagnose our own equipment
Ok...how is your personal or managements personal relationship with the local Hyster dealer ? The reason I ask is because software is proprietary also a lot of OEM's change their passwords frequently as well. I would lean on the dealership for their help !!
Between top loaders and side loaders along with our regular fleet of fork lifts we have about 40 pieces of equipment
Hey Brother...in regards to buying software for most brands you need to be a dealer. That being said you may be able to get the dealer you purchased the trucks from to download the specific software you are looking for. As a dealer it is a big No-No to do this but I have had a few times where a customer who bought a lot of equipment and had a good relationship with the dealer pulled it off. Good luck !!
