Cat Lift Trucks (& Caterpillar) VC60D:
How to drain hydraulic oil

Anyone can tell me how to drain the hydraulic oil in my forklift? Where is the drain plug for this?
Do I need to raise the forklift up and block it in order to gain access to a drain plug? Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Serial # 2MC950.

I used to have that "gig" in the Caribbean, I lived in Miami, and about once a week my day started at the airport, flying a puddle jumper (but sometimes a jet to the more popular places) to some island, usually in the Bahamas or Jamaica, but often as far as Aruba or Bonaire, and sometimes to mainland So. America. I filled up my passport, and got 10 extra pages and almost filled them up.
Everyone else thought it was a great job, but it was still work everyday, it was never like hanging out at the beach.
I still say there is NOTHING in my house that looks like a hotel, except the towels and ashtrays from a bunch of famous and fancy places.

No, i think it is a good "truth" Edward T.....and the only option for Forkliftaction is to "Fly....ME...out there" so I can do on the ground, up front Forum "Discussing".....and a short Christmas break in Maui would be OK too.

I am SOOOO tempted to say "the only way is to fly _ME_ out there, and I will drain it for you", but that would not be the truth.

There should be a drain plug in the frame on the same side as hydraulic fill cap. It may either be underneath or on the engine side very near the bottom.
If you can get the plug loose, and pans to catch all the oil, then you don't really need to get it in the air, if you run it all the way up, all the oil will be in the lift cylinders, and not the reservoir, so you won't be draining it if you do it that way. the mast should be all the way down to get the most oil changed as possible.
