I have the same error code, in this case I do have a sensor transmission installed in forklift.
And yes, after several months out of service, forklift was jumpstarted.
I already checked lines and ressistance from sensor to ECM, less than 1ohm.
Internal sensor resistance 600ohm.
Any suggestion.
I'm running out of ideas.

The 696 code comes up when the battery has been run flat and jump-started. There's almost never a transmission speed sensor, as it was optional, so don't waste time looking for it like I did. The fix is to flash the truck then clear the code through the dash. It's happened to me and pretty much all the road techs I work with. Pretty dumb. There's a service bulletin out on it. Good luck!

Mustang,

Code 696 is for a failed speed sensor mounted to the left side of the transmission. Inspect wiring before replacing sensor. Also, the manufacturer put out an update that has to be downloaded by a service technician if the sensor is good. This is a common failure. Code 649 is a lazy operating O2 sensor post cat. Verify all wiring connections are clean at sensor and ECM. Good Luck.

The hard to do we do right away. The impossible just takes a little longer.
