The 696 code comes up when the battery has been run flat and jump-started. There's almost never a transmission speed sensor, as it was optional, so don't waste time looking for it like I did. The fix is to flash the truck then clear the code through the dash. It's happened to me and pretty much all the road techs I work with. Pretty dumb. There's a service bulletin out on it. Good luck!
