I've got a yale deep reach (NDR030EANS36TE107) that has multiple issues but at the moment i'm focusing on the issues with the steer encoder. A new encoder was installed, and the local yale service provider programmed the encoder but every time at start up the display reads code 14 steer center fault, and the drive wheel does not center, no matter what position it is at it always turns to 90 degree of center and codes. I'm hoping someone can guide me in the right direction to fix this, thanks

yes sorry thats what i ment by steer ring thanks again
Nick,
Don't forget the target plate that bolts to the dive unit for the prox switch to center on. Good Luck
not sure about its previous functionality. The unit has sat for over a year and I'm the first tech to touch it since. parts were taken off and so far I've found that the steer ring is missing the over mast reach can cables were damaged giving intermittent problems with lift and reach function and the steer encoder at the tiller was burned out. The encoder is replaced and I'm fixing the reach system currently. I have an old Hyster OP with the same motor and set up I'm going to see if the steer ring on it will match up the same.
Nick,
If it was operating correctly before needing to replace the encoder, the prox switch should be good. Will the steering turn back to center? The drive tire must be facing in the straight travel position to see the prox switch light up.
Thank you, do you have a picture or schematic? I'm coming into this unit blind and the only items in there are the drive motor steer motor and motor controller. If I had to guess I'd say the sensor is missing.
Nick,
These units have only electric steering. The proximity switch is located just inside the motor compartment on the left hand side. With the switch turned on you should see a green light if it is operating correctly. Hopefully it just needs to be calibrated again. Good Luck.
thank you for the reply. This unit is all electric though, no hydraulic steering just the drive motor and steer motor. the encoder is part of the steering handle. I've got a call in to the local dealer to come back and program the steering again, hopefully we can resolve the issue this time.
Nick,
First, with battery disconnected, reach up on top of the target plate and remove all the dust. This builds up over the years and never gets cleaned. Also, make sure the prox switch is clearance is about 6 mm above the target plate. Check the new encoder harness. Make sure the ground strap is bolted in place. If you have a wire hanging, this is your ground strap. If it is not connected, will cause codes. Should you continue to have problems, may have bad encoder. Good Luck.
