Clark CFY40B---Cant keep it running!!!!

I just picked up this forktruck, and I cant seem to keep it running on the propane..I can start it with ether, but as soon as I stop the spray, the motor dies...Any Ideas what the problem can be??? It has a Continental 4cyl, and yes, it does have the vaporizer on the thermostat neck..This is my first propane engine, so I am not to familiar with them..Please help

This is elementary, but make sure that you have the vacuum signal to the LPG system. Without sensing intake vacuum the LPG is shut off...this as a safety feature so it isn't dispensing a dangerous quantity of LPG into a confined space while the engine is off.

I have also had problems where I thought I seated the quick screw-thread connector on the propane tank. While the threads were properly aligned, I couldn't supply enough torque by hand, I needed a quick boost from a rag and a channellock pliers. A quick test for this is to back off one of the JIC swivel fittings on the thin propane hose going down inside the machine and see if you get a little hiss, noting that LPG is flowing. Best of luck.

I have a CFY40B that I bouht a couple of months ago. I'm not up on LP feed engines either. Mine runs good, but lacks power when going up hills etc.

Been trying to locate manuals with no luck so far. All I can offer is mine as a reference if you need to make any comparisons?

On another note: the CFY40B is noted to have sloppy steering, but I came up with a $5 cure to fix the problem if you are interested...it works.
