Crown WAV50-118:
Chain wear

I have to determine chain wear.

In the technical manual it says to choose a pin on the chain, count down 24 pins and measure.
Do I count from that pin or that pin is "zero"?

How do I determine chain wear on the platform chain?

As for the chain wear gauge, the Total Source p/n is SYNC1 in the TVH site, about $5.00

the first pin is zero
always measure the chain just in front of the pulley that does the most work
any forklift parts supply will sell a generic chain wear scale about $15
the spec is 3 percent wear must be replaced

you're absoultly correct, i did not answer your question.

i did check my cat manual and on standard lift chains BL40 they say measure a 20 link span and the measurement for new chain is 381mm and the maximum wear stretch should not exceed 392mm so it should not exceed 10mm stretch, if it does then replace the chains.
Of course the size of the chain does matter in measurements and they all vary to some degree but most of them i've checked run around 10 to 15mm maximum stretch before they are considered replaceable.

Hope that answers your question :o)

Swoop,
thanks for your reply.

There's no dealer in my country.
I used to work for one, but it lost Crown dealership.
Now I have my own company I try to fix these leftovers. ;-)

I could buy a tool,
but that doesn't answer my question right?...

Regards!
