Caterpillar P6000

I have a Cat P6000 showing 2 error codes. 23 and 31. I know 23 indicates broken wires at the throttle position sensor and did in fact find 3 broken wires. I will repair them when I return to the machine. I do not know what the error code 31 indicates. Could someone please help me with this. Also I read I can use an OBD II code reader for cars to clear the codes. Is this true?

Thanks for any help.

You may have bad contacts on throttle sensor plug. Just take it apart by pulling yellow tab. Press slightly contacts so they have better grip. Put back together. Code should clear by its own over few days. You can check operation of throttle by removing air intake cover. Then recycle ignition to on and off. In off it does self calibration everytime you shut the engine off. If all OK you should see full throttle sweep. If it only moves slightly or shakes you still have wire problems.

Thanks Kevin. It has to be due to the broken wires at the Throttle position sensor. And this unit does have the OBDII connector. I will repair the wires and try clearing the codes.

Again thanks for the help.

E-31 is for the electronic actuator throttle control signal circuit malfunction.....basically is for the DC Motor inside the electronic throttle body....if you repaired wires the maybe this was one of them.......Yes if the truck has and OBD II Style connector under the cup holder then you can use it to clear codes on it with an automotive style scanner....not all trucks will have the connector tho
