Raymond C640-TN:
C640-TN SN#640-95-07136 No Forward/Reverse - all else works

Hello,

Sorry if this is a duplicate question, but I can't seem to figure this one out. The above mentioned forklift seems to be stuck, and after troubleshooting a few things, I haven't been able to determine the particular issue. Everything on the lift works except for forward and reverse. I've tried changing out both the control box, and the joystick, and I'm getting the same issue. I do hear a light click coming from the right side of the truck (if facing the front). I've cleaned electrical connections, and I've also tightened grounds, and the battery has a full charge (verified).

Oh, and the code under the main panel reads 2 when not trying to go forward or reverse, and A when pushing joystick forwards or backwards.

I'm relatively mechanically inclined, but I don't have any experience with this lift, so I'm at a bit of a loss.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I had a similar problem with my C40TT.

The steering wheel connects with a chain sprocket at the bottom of the compartment on the back. There is a switching mechanism below the sprocket which changes the drive motor from the front wheel motor(s) to the small motor on the steering wheel. This is a combination dual dual switch. There are two buttons on one side that control left turning and two on the other side that control right turning. There is an engagement switch that engages the small motor and a cutoff switch that disengages the main drive motors for extreme turning so you don't tear off/drag the steering wheel. On my unit one of the switches that is a cutoff switch was stuck down and would not release thus killing the power to the main drive motors. I pulled it out with needle nose pliers and worked it back and forth several times to loosen it up and it works great.

List your e mail address in your user info and I can send a trouble shooting chart to check no travel problem. It may take me a couple days to send.

2 means handle in neutral position (normal) "A" means the forward and reverse contactors are activated at the same time.
