Discussion:
Buy a Forklift

I Never have experience buying forklift at all, and I would like to buy one right now. Can anyone tell me a bit on how to go about buying one and recomandation? Some criteria would be:
-Indoor welding workshop in Toronto Canada
-Approx. 5000 lbs capacity
-Use propane
-4 wheels
-Used forklift
-Spend up to about $5000CDN
-Shop ceiling height is 14 feet max.
-Not much stacking, may be up to 6 feet high
-Other (I have no idea...)

Also, my other question is: how do a forklift depreciated and what guidline should I compare to. I have contacted one private sale, he has two Hyster, one is 2300hrs and other is 4400 hrs, year would be about early 1970s and late 1970s. Older one = $3500 CDN, newer one = $5000 CDN. He said both to be in excellence condition. I haven seen them yet and should I consider one of these two forklift or anyone can recomend a place to buy one (if you allow to place website or contact in here...?)

Thanks

John,

It has been about a month since you posted your question.

If you have not already committed to a 30 year old truck and can see some value in purchasing a mid 90's Hyster forklift for approximately $230.00 per month safety certified call me. I have been in the industry for over 20 years and service the GTA. I can always be reached at 905-706-3248. It cost nothing to discuss your options.

John,

When spending $5,000.00 dollars on a used forklift make sure you budget for some major repairs.

The Hyster units will have rolled over the hour meters, and although they may be in excellent condition, this may only mean exterior paint, tires and seat.

What lies below a low budget forklift is hidden internally.

I would suggest looking for a newer truck with lowere hours and if budget is concern, look at lease.

This can help conserve capital and provide a good working truck that is Safety Certifed and may last many more years without the cost of older units.

Feel free to contact me at 905-706-3248 if you are interested in newer trucks.
