Discussion:
Brakes all of a sudden engage

I purchased a used E30, worked so great. It was like new on the inside, just wasn't used much. I've owned it for about two months, no issues. A better died, I replaced it. The other battery died, I replaced that. i didn't know that I should have changed both batteries out.

The problem I am having is this: I will be moving the jack around , the brakes all off a sudden come on. I can move the forks up and down, but the unit does not for in any direction. I have to press the emergency off button, the pull it out. I then will have a functioning jack again, until it happens again. It could be 5 seconds later, or a minute.

Jason,
yeah i was just looking at your post and found some info on the batteries and thought it might be helpful. If the batteries are 75A batteries they fall within the specs so they should work ok. If they are running down in an hour though i would have him double check them and the charger to make sure they are charging back up fully. It sounds like they arent.

Thank you for the response. I do not know much about electricity, and batteries. The technician I had work on my machine, said it needed a deep 75 type of battery. I don't know if that tells you much.

what did you replace those old batteries with? same type/model of battery you had?
bigjoe says there are 2 options for the batteries for this unit
- a 65A rated battery (lead acid type) p/n: 1115-500005-00
- a 85A rated battery (AGM) Advanced Glass Mat p/n: 003231

Note: if you choose or have installed AGM batteries the charger mode has to be changed to charge these AGM batteries. The charger by default is in normal wet battery mode. The battery type is most likely changed in the machine setup in the controller. I'd have to get hold of the service manual to see if it goes into that.

Alright. So I charge the batteries, and the jack works. The problems happen when some power is used, maybe about an hour in.
