Toyota 7FBMF16:
Battery/water lamp - Creep mode.

Hi. I have a problem with a truck on the road that has me and my tech team stumped so I will try here.

It is a Toyota 7FBMF16. It is in creep mode with no fault codes on the dash but an icon which we are struggling to find in any manual. It is a battery icon with water inside, kind of like waves. Now I didn't think the battery has any sensors to tell the truck that it requires topping up. Also I didn't think that this would put it into creep mode. So If any of you cold help out, that would be great.

Thank you.

Failing this then I am going to have to change the speed sensor in the motor but that is a terrible job to do. Wahh.

Thank you for all of your replies.
This has been rectified now. It was indeed the speed sensor bearing. Took the mast off, took the motor out and swapped out the bearing and its repaired. I think the dash light was actually because the truck was not recognising the battery type, it was on the wrong setting.

Well, its been called back in. Same fault after topping up the battery fluids.
They do have a brand new battery next to the truck that is currently charging. Its so flat it wont even power the truck up. Going to have to try that when it is charged and at least that will cancel out a possible faulty battery if it still doesnt work, but the ignition cable is getting around 50v, so that cancels that one out too.

Oh yes of course. I did check the wire was there and intact but I didn't check the voltage of the wire as it was getting ignition. After telling the customer to top the battery cells up as they were dry last week and let me know how it goes. I have not heard anything back so I am assuming it is working again now. I will be keeping an eye on it though and investigating further.

Do you have a stable positive 50 volts on the ignition wire?

These 7FBMF operate on 80 volts BUT they also have a separate 50 volts positive take of requirement from the battery for the ignition circuit - double check that - should be a small wire attached to the battery around the middle to provide it.

The battery is a bit dry to be honest. I have got the customer to top it up but nothing that would put it into creep mode. It is an 80v truck and it is getting the full 80v even a little bit more.

Well that image got us stumped, its not one I've ever seen before & its not even shown in the official service manual.

Is the battery in good overall condition?

Is the 50 volt positive take of for the ignition circuit stable? Its obviously connected else the truck wouldn't even power up but does it have a stable positive 50 ( ish ) volts on?

Any chance of sending me a picture of the display with the odd symbol on it?

As for speed sensor bearing on a 7FBMF - I've done one in the past & its mast removed then complete drive unit assembly out to access then replace the bearing.
