Discussion:
battery troubles

my forklift has been getting sluggish, there is a three color power gauge on the dash and even after a full nights charge, it shows yellow and red can someone please tell me how to get it back to green ive put water to the recomended level, and that doesnt help, and today i took a reading from the power cord and i got 39v how can that be? the model i have is 36v. how do i test each individual cell to see if its just a few cells or something else mechanical, any help would be greatly appreciated

Your battery should be able to reset the gauge at 2.02 v per cell in older 322 models, 2.09 in newer trucks. you must have a guage problem

39 is about fully charged (slightly less)
(fully charged is around 2.2 volts per cell)
at 36 volts even you are completely dead

now you have to monitor the battery voltage while you tilt to the stop and hold it

if you drop 2-3 volts youre probably OK more than that you might want to call a battery guy to check it out

you may need a new battery if the machine wont last more than a couple of hours or wont work at all
(if it loses its charge rapidly)

a good battery should last 6 hours of continuous use
(8 hour shift with breaks and stop time)

if you charge too often you can diminish the capacity to hold the charge effectively too
