Briggs and Lift1 like most dealers will always need good technicians. They generate revenue for the company. What they won't need is non-operational overhead based in Charlotte, Ga. and Florida. Marketing reports, PP,and excel can be done by admin people and eliminate the VP titles.

I'm gonna hafta wait for the dust to settle before I really get a grip on how it is gonna work out. I know there are a lot of things to work through and I know you can't do it all in a day. Then, you have the issues that come up for those of us who are far away from the shop that will have to be worked through. Still, it has got to be better when the dust clears.

LiftOne officially kicked off their part today. Can't say I'm sad to see Barloworld move out of the picture.
G8torliftr, beware of what others tell you is happening, it may not always be truthful.
Can't help but believe better days are ahead, at least in our neck of the woods.

Bye bye BW, heard that Briggs officially started today, at least in Florida that is. Hopefully it wont take them long to identify the dead weight that should have been gone a long time ago and start some changes for the better.

The only thing actually lost to those in the Lift One area that I have heard about is sick hours. Those who had hours built up will lose them. Seniority flips over and remains. All in all, was a good deal, as much more could have been lost.

I was told "Pink Slips" go out this week from Briggs decision. I was told by BW employee that most cuts in florida have already been made and not by Briggs. Any truth to this?

well edwardt
from what i understand they get to keep thier senority status, vacation time etc.
so in effect if they had 14yrs with barlow then they will be as if they had 14yrs with liftone when its all said and done.

NACCO cannot lose enough share with this transition. Their competition should be all over BW/Hyster accounts.

still wondering, what did the 'final shakeout' look like, as far as seniority, vacation time (both this years and future).

I don't know about any legal issues as to employment as we are leaving the employment of one to go to another, and even though I don't like the idea either, I wouldn't want to pay someone for unproductive time to take a physical to be employed by another company. That being said, I think we should be paid because we did not seek out the employment but through no fault of our own, we will be switching employers. Will we get paid? Anybodies guess. But I do have a thought. Better left unsaid, to many eyes and ears.

Forklifts, it is my bet it actually has some legal or insurance reasoning, something like it needs to be a "_pre_" employment drug screen. if they were paying you, you would then already be in their employment.
And of course BW is "that cheap", since they won't be having any future profits from you, and will now have to clean up all the dirt they thought they had swept under the rug and expose it to the light of day ("a new broom sweeps clean").
My bet is these days (especially with the deal closing postponed) the BW [soon to be former BW] management is spending a good deal of their time finding things that they thought they had 'gotten away from' that have to be fixed or adjusted before the keys to the doors of the palace can be handed over, and that there is no place to hide those problems anymore.
