I have a Baker 18k forklift. It has stopped lifting. The cylinders work and I have no leaks. Without weight I on the forks the masts raises and lowers fine and I have plenty of lift capacity with the tilt. But with weight on the forks it will not raise, but the tilt cylinders still work. HELP!!

This truck has a single stage limited free lift ram style lift cylinder with a pair of tilt cylinders mounted to gain added mechnical and hydraulic leverage advantage. The control valve for this particular truck is a three spool and the third spool is capped. The lift and tilt functions are controlled by the remaining spools.
You really should perform pressure checks. Typically when a control valve has an issue it will lift a load but it will drift down due to wear on the body and the spool.
Can you tell me what the part number is for the valve body? I probably need to get it rebuilt and adjusted. thanks
MEngr- thanks for the info- as you can probably tell I haven't worked on one of these ;o. Another question- does the lift control circuit power just the lift, or does it also power tilt, S/S. etc?

The Baker B150PD 15,000 lb lift has a power steering, lift control and drive control pumps. The truck lift pump's pick up circuit needs to be looked at along with the relief valve, and the pump's hydraulic efficiency.
MEngr- does this truck have just 1 hydraulic pump that powers all functions (including P/S) or are there multiple pumps. I'm thinking maybe the hydraulic control valve is bleeding by on the hoist function- just a thought

The ram style cylinder has no piston seal to disintegrate.
First of all the truck has a base capacity of 15,000#, not 18,000#.
If you can tilt a load but not lift it, I would assume that all of the hydraulic functions are working properly. It sounds to me like the lift cylinder packing has disintegrated and the hydraulic fluid is dumping back to the tank.
sounds like lots of options left to check. is there anyway my mechanic can call you directly to get some more specific information like where the suction filters are etc? Also if the pump lost its prime would I still get pressure to the cylinders and steering? Lots of questions and you sound like the person to help solve this problem for me.

This truck has the hydraulic control lever automatically increases the engine speed with the demand for faster lift speed. Does its engine sound like it is in labor? When the valve body was inspected did the relief valve appear ok? Does the oil appear foamy? How does the velocity control valve in the lift cylinder base appear? Were the suction filters changed? Could the pump have lost its prime? Could the lift's pump have too much internal leakage? The lift cylinder is a ram type which eliminates it as a fault of internal leakage. The oil, is it of proper viscosity?
Yes to my knowledge it was changed about 2 moths ago, filter and all. Pulled the valve body off today and everything looks good in the body so I am just confused. I do not believe my pump would just suddenly stop producing the pressure needed to raise the forks with weight on them. The pump does not appear to be laboring either..

Your truck is contract 1934 built July 85. Has the oil been changed recently? The original oil used was Texico Rando 68. This oils normally use in ambient temperatures of 23 to 104 degrees F, and the viscosity was ISO VG 68. Is this what is in the truck?
The steering is controled by the same Aux pump as the cylinders and I have no issues with that, so I am thinking I may have a Valving block issue? Can you get me a schematic for the Hyd System or at least the valves?
