AusIntermodal 2002

Australia, Melbourne - 19th and 20th Nov. 2002
The organisers note that this event is Australia's largest freight transport gathering this year.
Over seven hundred freight transport industry professionals will gather at Lloyd's List DCN's AusIntermodal 2002 event due to be held on the 19th and 20th November 2002 at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
The two day event will feature over sixty speakers, including international guests such as Peter Wolters, the Deputy Secretary General of the European Intermodal Association and Baron Delwaide, the President of the Antwerp Port Federation.
Local speakers include Richard Hein, Chairman of P&O Australia, Marinus van Onselen, Chief Executive Office of Freight Australia and Chris Whitaker, Managing Director of Melbourne Ports Corporation. The conference will generate lively debate, with presentations such as Allen Buckley's (Chief Executive of Australian Air Express), who will be discussing the future of competition in Australian air services and in particular its impact on airfreight.
Delegates will be able to attend a plenary session on day one, followed by a choice of streams - maritime, rail, road and air - on day two.
The event will also be supported by a trade exhibition, which will include interactive ship and rail simulators run by AMC Search and Pacific National respectively.
The culmination of the two days will be The 7th Annual Lloyd's List DCN Australian Shipping and Transport Awards 2002 on the 20th November at the Plaza Ballroom, Melbourne.
The awards recognise peak performances from maritime and transport operators as well as individual awards. Awards vary from sailing schedule reliability and customer service to awards for advancement in e-commerce, Port of the Year, Newsmaker of the Year, initiatives in transport and of course the Intermodal Award of the Year.

Fact of the week
At the opening ceremony of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932, marching bands were instructed to walk out of step as they crossed the bridge. This unusual directive was given as a precaution due to concerns about the bridge's structural integrity during its early use.
