Transnet has ordered ZPMC straddle carriers |
Chinese crane maker ZPMC has been awarded a contract for 22 port straddle carriers by South Africa Transnet TPT Terminal.
This is the second contract for ZPMC, which also secured an order for seven port offset tractors.
ZPMC claims its straddle carriers are lighter than its competitors.
To ensure safe operation, the straddle carriers are equipped with automatic fire extinguishers, fatigue monitoring systems, an operator's cab security system and a semi-automatic system for path identification, obstacle avoidance and container stopping.
The first batch of 22 STSs will be delivered to Transnet by the end of this year.
State-owned Transnet is the largest freight logistics provider in South Africa.
