Did you know WorkSafe has released a new document called "People and forklifts don't mix"? This document contains the expectations for separation of pedestrians and forklifts. The document states that there must be at least 3 meters distance between a pedestrian and forklift or a suitable permanent physical barrier must be installed. It also stresses that companies must develop a full and written traffic management plan.

Warehouse Safety Solutions (WSS) has dedicated years to developing products to aid customers in the separation of forklifts and pedestrians. These include our safety barriers and gates.

While the Australian Standard AS1657 (Standard for balustrade railing) specifies a minimum of 50mm diameter upright, common sense would tell us that a 50mm diameter upright would not withstand being hit by a forklift weighing 5 ton. WSS understands this and we have made the decision to go beyond the Australian Standard and use a minimum of 100mm x 100mm uprights - double the minimum requirement. We have installed our gates and rails in countless warehouses, with great success.

WSS can also link our gates to our Early Alert system that will magnetically lock the gates when a forklift approaches or activate a flashing light when a pedestrian uses the gate.

WSS in conjunction with NMIT offer full traffic management audits that will help you comply with the new requirements.
