Comfort and controlThe 'mid-life' update of the 3 and 4 wheel
EP13-20(C)PN(T) range, originally launched in 2011, includes a mix of upgrades to the standard specification and additions to the available options. Its main focus has been on increasing productivity by improving driver comfort and control.
The existing armrest, for example, has been replaced with a state-of-the-art unit offering best-in-class ergonomics. It combines anatomical support with free movement, perfect hand positioning and spring-force-optimised fingertip hydraulic controls.
To ensure drivers enjoy the best possible response from these controls, and from the 'steer-by-wire' system, the trucks' controller software has been upgraded. A number of other truck functions benefit from the new software, which can also be installed in pre-change models.
For applications requiring lifts above 5.5 metres, a reinforced mast now comes as standard. This works together with optimised mast suspension and hydraulics to produce greater stability and less sway. For trucks lifting less than 5.5 metres, reinforced masts can be selected as an option.
An optional lift height switch can be fitted to reduce drive, lift, tilt and side-shift speeds, automatically, during high lifting. Meanwhile, the load weight indicator option for these trucks now includes pitching control to suppress forward and backward swaying of loads during travel.

What customers wantAll of these changes, and more, reflect the wishes and comments expressed by specialists within the dealerships, which in turn reflect their knowledge of customers' wishes.
The existing armrest, for example, has been replaced with a state-of-the-art unit. |
A reinforced side cover for the 3 wheel trucks, a cold store modification package for temperatures as low as -35°C and a dual pedal system offering separate forward and reverse pedals are just some of the specific needs answered by new options.
Further driver comforts include a choice of ergonomic Grammer seats, and in the 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 tonne models the seat can now be moved back by a further 100 mm to give extra leg space.
Also on the extended options list is an improved sideways battery exchange system. This benefits from an easy door-opening mechanism and a simple, user-friendly and effective exchanging device which makes battery switching fast and safe.
As a finishing touch, practical dark grey colouring for the dashboard, front panel and upper cover has subtly enhanced the look of the trucks.
More importantly, the Cat
® design team is confident that users will feel significant differences when they operate them.
