In the ever-evolving arena of machine/vehicle design, the choice of lighting continues to play a pivotal role in shaping brand identity. TYRI, with over 40 years of expertise, explores the advantages of custom-designed lights for OEMs and the transformative impact on brand recognition.

Crafting Distinctive Designs:

Custom-designing lights for an OEM is a collaborative process for TYRI. Through working closely with customers and with an in-house approach, TYRI has successfully executed numerous design collaborations with major manufacturers worldwide. One notable example in the material handling sector is the award-winning design for the Toyota Traigo 80 rear lighting bar. TYRI has worked on many other special design projects for OEMs, including recent work on the Valtra S-Series (also known as ‘the Boss’) combining driving lights, DRLs (Daytime Running Light), and integrated work lights within one sleek unit.

Cost-Effective Customization:

Contrary to common perceptions, designing custom lights can be more cost-effective than buying mass-produced alternatives. The difference in cost diminishes with volume, making it comparable at around 5,000 units. At TYRI the cost of custom-designed lights doesn't necessarily exceed mass-produced lights, thanks to leveraging existing resources and minimizing additional expenses.

Beyond Aesthetics:

Custom-designed lights extend beyond aesthetics, offering an array of benefits. Beyond brand value, customers can dictate specifications such as light strength, colour temperature, and more. This level of customization ensures that the light is purpose-built for a specific vehicle, enhancing both performance and visual appeal.

Driving Aftermarket Sales:

Unique machine-specific lighting not only enhances brand value but also acts as a catalyst for aftermarket sales. This dual impact on brand recognition and sales development positions custom-designed lights as a strategic investment for OEMs.

Expertise Meets Innovation:

TYRI utilizes four decades of experience and a comprehensive in-house approach to produce specific lights that often match the cost of their standard range. This fusion of expertise and innovation ensures the superiority of TYRI custom-designed lights over their mass-produced counterparts.

Design Options offered by TYRI:

TYRI can take the role of a strategic design partner integrating into your design team and acting as your lighting specialist. Alternatively, they can work with tactical design by adaptation customising existing products with special features. They offer three different levels of customisation and design:

Level 1: Re-Design

The most basic custom lighting option involves modifying an existing product to meet your specific requirements. Alterations may include changing the light casing colour, logo, or trim details. This solution offers both time and cost savings, with minimal additional expenses based on quantity. Utilizing a proven product eliminates the need for extensive testing however, it comes with limited design options. Jeep employed this approach when collaborating with TYRI Americas to enhance the off-road lighting package for the 2018 JL Wrangler.

Level 2: Module-based

This mid-entry custom design, or modular-based approach, integrates existing PCBAs, electronics, and optical systems to create a new product. This option allows for more flexible design freedom, shaping the outer shell according to specifications. TYRI UK employed this strategy in collaboration with Terberg Benschop in the Netherlands, striking a balance between cost and customization.

Level 3: New Design

The full-service option allows TYRI lighting experts to collaborate with your design team and develop a completely new lighting product tailored to your specific requirements. This allows close coordination between TYRI and your design team for optimal results. TYRI Sweden worked in this way with Massey Ferguson to create bespoke Halogen and LED headlights; Toyota to produce a bespoke rear light bar for the award-winning Traigo 80 forklift; and most recently Valtra to design and produce their integrated headlight/DLR/work light solution for the new S-Series ‘the Boss’.

Embrace the future of vehicle illumination with TYRI, where every light design is a unique expression of brand identity and performance.
