The Rock Island arsenal facility of the US Army Contracting Command has awarded a USD147,247 contract to a Georgia dealer for six commercial-grade Toyota forklifts.

Atlanta Forklifts Inc, doing business as Toyota Forklifts of Atlanta, won the Army competition, adding to its volume of military business.

While withholding details, "we have other military orders" with larger quantities, says Randy Mincey, government sales manager for the Scottdale, Georgia-based firm.

The Army will use the forklifts at its Camp Stanley Storage Activity location in Boerne, Texas.

The 19 September firm fixed price award involves one forklift with lifting capacity of 10,000 lb. (4,500 kg), two of 6,000 lb. (2,700 kg) and three of 4,000 lb. (1,800 kg). The command issued the final solicitation for bids on 27 August.

In addition to Scottdale, the dealership has Georgia locations in Augusta, Lawrenceville and Lithia Springs and, in addition to Toyota, represents Bendi specialized forklifts, Drexel narrow aisle forklifts, Toyota's Aichi-brand aerial work platforms, Hoist container handlers, reachstackers and heavy-duty forklifts and Princeton truck-mounted forklifts.
